Wonder Child and I ventured into the pet world tonight after locating a lovely cat needing a new home on Craigslist. The paperwork that came with her from the original shelter adoption to her previous owners indicated she was a "Scottish Fold," but I don't see the resemblance with the
breed pictures.

She was sweet when we met her, although a little aloof. (Aren't most cats?) She's explored a good part of the house, but her favorite spot seems to be under the dining room table (hence the closed eyes in the picture - I had to use the flash ... not good for open cat eyes). I think I understand her choice - it's out of the way, hidden behind a few stacks of miscellany ... safe and secure.
As we were driving home from her previous owner's, Wonder Child and I discussed names for the cat. He wasn't fond of "Gigi," the name given her by the previous owner's children. Wonder Child was leaning toward "Gracie," although that is our neighbor's dog's name (and the name of my parents' Garmin GPS). I liked "Bailey." We were at a temporary impasse ... that is until Wonder Child said, "She looks peaceful."
A-ha! I suggested the Swahili word for peace, and he agreed it fit!
So, we are pleased to introduce to you our newest family member ... "Amani."

Yay for Amani! She looks very sweet. Just wait until she decides that your house is well and truly HER house. :)
